circular needles

I'm working on a tank sweater using circular needles. The pattern calls for a 28" size #6 needle. I've been using that, but it seems pretty tight. I've been doing a lot of decreasing and it is getting really hard to pull the yarn around the circle. Can I use a circular that is shorter so that this won't be a problem, or does it have to be the length shown in the pattern? Will using a shorter circle make a difference? Molly

nope shorter will be fine...that's typical as you start decreasing...in some cases might even have to go down to dpns (but probably not for a sweater! ) you are going to mess with the sweater more if you are trying to force too few stitches over a needle that is too long than the opposite.
