Men's Hat like "Half Dome"

My brother wants a hat that has the shape/size from Knitty's new Half Dome pattern. But, he wants it to have an open-weave stitch pattern. I hope that makes sense. Can anyone suggest a stitch pattern that would look masculine?

hmm... i can't think of anything off the top of my head, but i'll try to keep an eye out.

mm well if you do do half dome be warned I think the pattern is wrong for the larger size and my guage was spot on - it says 1 ball I needed a ball and a bit more
