Too much Yarn in between needles
I am trying to knit a pair of booties but as soon as I finish knitting the first row I have 2 straight pieces of string in between the needles. It seems like too much. I have re-tried several time and I still keep getting this. The next step is to M1 increase by lifting the thread in between and I don't know which od the two stright pieces to lift.

If these are knit in the round it sounds like one of the cast on stitches dropped off.

Mine always happen after I cast on - as I knit the first row, but then it goes away after a couple of rows. This would be in straight knitting.
