Slouchy legwarmers?

My mom has been asking me for about a year now to knit her a pair of legwarmers. As I was on Knitty, she saw an ad with legwarmers and said "Just like that!" These are the ones. But they come in a kit and she doesn't want me to knit it with yarn she has to handwash. There is a section where you can buy the patterns individually, but I can't find that one in there. So does anyone know where I can find a pattern similar to this?

If it were me, I'd probably just figure out guage and cast on as many stitches as needed to make the warmers a little bit bigger than the circumfrance of the legs... and then work in k2p2 ribbing for a while, and see if its looking right. That's what those legwarmers look like to me. On the other hand, I could be entirely wrong, and it is very irritating to get something halfway made to find out it won't work.

Those legwarmers appear to be tucked into the top of the boots perhaps to keep them up. I think I'd make the ribbing a bit tighter on one end just to insure they'll stay up.....

I made some fingerless gloves with k2 p1 ribbing at top and bottom with st st in between. They certainly could be slouchy if one desired without worrying about them falling done when in motion

These ones would work too. Anyone know where I can find a pattern for ones like that? I'm totally willing to pay for it, and would pay for that one, but they snail mail it to you and I want to start them ASAP.

What is your knit skill level? I would just go for it. The first pair look to be in 1x1 ribbing. The second ones are just a ribbing end and stockinette on the top and bottom.

I have a pair of legwarmers I wear a lot. I can tell how they are made and have been thinking of making another pair or two myself. You would have to take your own gauge and also leg measurements and calculate the number of stitches. But, here is how I would do it:

Using 4 circular needles - a double set of a smallersize, like say size 5 if you were using worsted weight, and a double set of a size about 3 or so sizes bigger, like about size 8 for worsted weight acrylic yarn. The entire thing is done in K1P1 ribbing, worked in the round. But the bottoms and tops are done using the smaller needles to make the ribbing more snug. If you had circulars that were small enough in length you might be able to get away with just using one of each size, 5 and 8. You could also use DPN's but I find them very difficult and lose patience! I have a ton of circulars so why not use them I guess! Or you could even get away with working them flat and then seaming them up the back. I have found 2 circulars works great when working a small piece in the round.
