another pattern question!
yes, i have ANOTHER question!! (sorry & thanks to eveyone!!)

i'm knitting my first sweater. i'm on the sleeve & want to make sure i'm doing it correctly. the pattern is:
co 59
rows 1&2 k
row 3 inc in first st, k to last st, inc in last st
row 4 *p2tog, yrn, rep from * to last st, p1
rows 5&6 k
row 7 as row 3 (63 st)
rows 8&9 k
row 10 p
shape top
row 11 cast off 4 sts, k to end
row 12 cast off 4 sts, p to end
row 13 k2tog, k to last 2 sts, k2tog
row 14 p2tog, p to last 2 sts, p2tog
row 15 as row 13
row 16 purl
row 17 as row 13 (47 sts)
row 18 k
these 18 rows form patt and start shaping
cont in patt, dec 1 st at each end of next & every foll 4th row to 37 sts, then on every foll 4th row to 37 st, then on every foll alt row to 27 sts, then on follow 7 rows, ending rs facing, cast off rem 13 sts.
phew!
i've done the first 18 rows & want to make sure i'm proceeding correctly.
here's my question: do i follow the pattern including increases & cast offs after the first 18 rows? i'm questioning the increases & decreases because the first 18 rows measure approx. 3 inches. the sleeve is supposed to be 10 in. if i do the original decreases plus add in the new decreases i'll finish it by doing the pattern less than 2 1/2 times which doesn't come close to 10 inches.

hope this makes sense!

thanks!

It looks to me that rows 11-18 are the shaping for the sleeve cap--from the armpit to the top of the shoulder.

It looks like you're supposed to work rows 1-10 over and over until the length is to the armhole shaping.

thank you! that makes so much more sense..... i think since the sweater pattern was 18 rows as well that was confusing me. someone should write a book on translating patterns - they could make alot of money!

have a great day.
