Baby Surprise Jacket ?

I've just completed the section where you knit 10 ridges on the center 90 sts. Now I'm susposed to pick up 10 sts on side of piece I just knitted and knit 34 sts from end of needle. I'm lost. What does it mean to knit 34 sts from end of needle?
