Nearly new knitter needing help!
Hi

Hope somebody could help me. I started knitting years ago when I was about 4 or 5, taught by my Nanna.

Anyway, I never progressed passed stocking stick and garter stitch etc. because she got too frail to teach me and my Mam doesn't knit.

Anyway, this year i decided I would teach myself to knit, so I bought a book with some simple patterns in and some needles and wool.

After a bit of a practice I've decided to do a pattern and looking at the key I know what the stitches are, but when it says yard forward 'yfwd' what does that mean?

the row that it says it on is as follows:

K2, p1, (k1, yfwd) twice, k1, p1, k2 (11sts).

after trawling through the internet and looking on the link from the sticky I can't see what you do when you need to yarn forward?

Can anybody help?

Ta

Mrs Q

Oh, and thanks in advance!

you know how you bring your yarn to the front when you purl?
and when you purl, your right needle is in the front of the left needle, not going behind?

this, you bring the yarn to the front, as if to purl
but then, you actually do a knit stitch like you normally would.

And then put your yarn in back like regular knitting (unless they tell you to keep it in front like your pattern says)

**edited, cuz I DID goof!!!**

I'm off to see if Amy has a video for ya.

Thanks Heather.

I will have a try following your instructions, but if you do find a film then that would be great as I learn best by seeing it being done.

I'm going to have a go now and see what I end up with!!!

Go here and scroll down to the bottom of the page. Look in the right hand column for YO. They are essentially the same thing.
