Stitch holder question...
So I'm making mittens and I've got 13 sts on a stitch holder. To knit from the stitch before the holder to the stitch after the stitch holder, I end up with a weird string of yarn no matter how tight I make it. As far as I can tell, there's just no way to avoid it, right? I mean there's a gap- you have to knit two stitches around the gap and that's just what happens? Is that right?

My second question- if there's no way to avoid the string thing, will you be able to cover it up later when you do the thumb?

You could knit those two stitches together to close the gap.
