Buttonholes

Hi every1! I'm making a cardigan with a vertical ribbing buttonband/buttonhole band. However, I have no clue how to make a buttonhole.

I've viewed the video on this site, but I don't think I can do it on the band. I'm using size 8 needles and the band is 9 stitches wide in a k1,p1 rib. Can anyone please tell me how to (easily) make a buttonhole on this band? I have been making this sweater for almost 3 wks, and it would be done if I could just figure out the button holes. My buttons are 1".

Thanks for your response. I'll give it a shot. If I can't figure it out, guess I'll just use snaps!

thanks for the link, sue. i think i've just decided to stop trying button holes and use grograin ribbon and snaps. No matter what i try, it never works. i don't know if its because i'm working in k1,p1 rib, or if i just don't have a wide enough band. i've tried several techniques and none seem to work for me.
