Kathy - I don't know about anyone else, but I would rather get the hanks than wound balls. I like the way the hanks feel.

I wind my own yarn into center pull balls but if i were to GIVE yarn to someone i would just leave it as is (hank, skein, etc.) I just think it "looks" more pretty/presentable(sp?) that way;-)

I agree...I think its looks better as is and then the person can decide what they want to do with it.

I have a few ideas of who has me..... I'm keeping a spread sheet that I'm entering notes into. I have a better idea of who doesn't have me though...lol

Kathy I've been told that you don't want to wind yarn until you’re ready to use it, so I'm leaving it as it comes.

Leah, I didn't make a spreadsheet, but I did take the list and check who was from the UK.

The list was so small, I didn't need a spreadsheet, otherwise I might have excel-ed it up.

This is what happens when I don't have anything to do. I make lists for myself and obsessively organize. Do I throw anything out? Of course not! That would be less to organize!

so i have a ball winder, but not a swift.
any suggestions on a make shift swift to wind any hanks if i get them? i like the way a hank looks too, and i think winding the ball fluffs the yarn, so i like to do that right before i stitch. i just usually wind mine at the lys. my lys actually suggests winding it 2 times if you can do that. swift into ball, then ball into ball 2. it's livens up the fibers.

a swift is on my list of things i should probably eventually buy, but i always end up getting myself some more yarn with the money. :rofling:

kathy--thats a good question. i think i would ask them if they have a ball winder first. i know some knitters like to keep the yarn as-is until they are going to use it. i like mine in cakes, takes up less space. if i am not going to be using it soon, i cake it kinda loose so i dont stretch the yarn while it waits. but i do have some still in hanks cause i am so slow that its going to be quite a long time until i get to them
