Speaking of Dogs

This is sorta gross, but not actually. You'll see what I mean.

My dog, whenever she starts to feel sick (like she's going to throw up) will climb all over me and try to get super close. Just a bit ago, she started that hiccuping thing that usually precedes a really good yark and started nudging into me, getting under my legs on the floor, etc. She then decided that wasn't close enough and clambered into my lap on the couch looking all pathetic. This is a 46lb dog here. She has no idea how big she is sometimes. I moved us to the kitchen floor and just held her. I didn't have any other option.

She didn't actually end up sicking anything up, but she does this every time she feels like she might. It's a comfort thing, I'm guessing. I just try to soothe her, telling her she's a good girl and it's okay to be sick until she yarks or until she lays down which is a sign she's past the crisis point.

Does anyone else's dogs do this or something similar?

I don't have a dog, but I think it's kinda cute. She's feeling icky and needs her momma!

When my cats start making the yacking sounds, I run over to them, sweep them up... and put them in the bathroom! lol

and silver, i've always wondered why cats prefer to puke on carpet when there's a perfectly gorgeous tiled floor in the kitchen, bath and laundry areas! *grrrrrrrrrrr* guess they prefer the feel of carpet under their paws.

my cat usually gives me enough warning that she's going to yak that i can pick her up and carry her to the bathroom, where i suspend her over the toilet until she barfs...easy cleanup!

my answer to your question about what you should do when your dog acts like that is....well, i guess it depends on how you WANT her to act...by praising her and telling her it's okay, you're giving her reinforcement that the pressing against you is something you want - which is fine, as long as it is, in fact, something you don't mind her doing.

Poor puppy! Yeah I guess she feels so sick she wants to be reassured. It is really cute!

We used to have a dog that would bark to go outside when she felt she would throw up. We never trained her for it, I guess she thought that if something had to... come out... it had to be done outside.

She's what I call an Animal Shelter Special. The shelter said she was a "Collie Mix" with no specification on whether that was a smooth or rough, border or whatever. We've guessed that it's border collie at this point. Maybe some... uhm, I dunno. Shepherd or retriever in there somewhere. She goes on point when she sees a small animal she thinks she can catch. It cracks me up.

I don't mind when she does the cuddling thing, I mostly don't want her to think she'll get in trouble for being sick. It's not like it's something she can control. So I reassure her and love on her when she gets all yarky.

As a note, she has not in fact thrown up. I think she ate a leaf on the balcony and it was a trigger.

I call her ear puffs 'sideburns,' but then my hubby covers her ears and declares me to be a meany head. His dogger doesn't have sideburns. She has "pigtails."

My dog barfs A LOT. As do a lot of min. dachs. He doesn't want any lovin' at that time though... he's actually kind of "grumpy" when he's sick.
