Jan, I haven't touched my knitting since I got here. Today we did nothing but sit around, watch tv and sweat. Yuck.

Hi! I'm from the south (Tennessee, not Texas) and would love to have the weather you do! Your story reminds me of when I was in high school and in the band. We would have state band competitions and would snicker when the children from Michigan and Wisconsin would pass out from the heat. Seems so horrible now.

Jan, I feel awful for you! I don't like being hot either. Once I lived 'up North' and none of the homes had A/C, because it NEVER gets hot enough. So of course the summer I'm there, they had record breaking high temps. It was beyond miserable!

We tried everything we could think of to cool off. We would go to the mall and stay all day. We would go see movies we weren't even interested in just to be in the A/C. But eventually we had to go home and it was so hard to sleep at night in the heat.

I have lived in Houston for many years now and it is SO hot here, but everything has A/C. In fact, it is ridiculous how cold indoor places are! I have to take a sweater with me to work, to church, to the movies, and the coldest places are the restaurants. It is hard to eat with your teeth chattering!

Also, I stay sick a lot during the really hot months. When you go outside your skin gets hot, sticky and moist. Then you go inside and freeze!

I hope it cools down for you soon, Jan. I don't have AC, either, but fortunately there are usually only a few weeks a year when I really need it. I broke down and put a window unit in a few years ago. When it gets super hot and humid, I break out the air mattress and sleep there.

It used to be that we only had a few days a year that got very hot, but the last few years have been horrible. If I had a double hung window I would have put up a window a/c, too.

Look on the plus side.. think of all the water weight you're losing!

I know, that probably doesn't help.

Did you ever find an a/c for your MIL, Pat?

Looks like the worst of the heat wave is over for now. Whew! It's about 20 degrees cooler now than in it was yesterday at the same time.

Hi Jan:

The heat wave seems to have broken. It has been 106 here for the last three days and yesterday our air conditioning went out. It was SO HOT in the house last night - 94. Phew. I'm so glad it is cooler where you are.

Okay, so your boiling hot and your knitting. You have two options - go to a two dollar store and buy a mini fan (i got one when i was really hot and they really work), or you go to a heating/fan store and stay there for the whole day!!! lots of fun!

SOURCES - I dont have AC either :-(
