I just hit this thread and am glad you got some support for your envy issues! If you can't find a local bead store maybe you could try michael's or joann's online? I don't know if you have that in canada? If you don't there are always some of us that don't mind shopping for others

I use the 2" beading Pins, and wrap the tail of the pin around a metal needle a size bigger than the person would be using to knit with. You CAN use them on any needle smaller if you want.
so I can make stitch markers for anything from a size 1 to a 15 (I never did make any smaller than a size 8 though)
I have even made some with a large ring on one end, and a smaller one on the other end of the bead. the lady I made these for works at the Post Office, and had never seen a reason to use them, I hope having a set helps her to understand the attraction to them. For myself I make a TON at once, then give them away or sell them for about $10 a set (pays for the semi precious stones I make mine with)

The picture came out kinda blurry (and upside down ), but here's my first attempt at stitch markers...I made them for my secret theme swappee!
I got the beads at a local craft swap and bought head pins and the jumprings at Michaels.

I've gotten the stitch marker bug too and have made several, just haven't gotten around to take pictures of them, except my recently made ones. They were made specially for my partner in the Secret Swap (can't reveal who just yet). It's not that easy getting a nice detailed picture of stitch markers. I used toggles that I got from AC Moore and the charms and gem stone chips were purchased from ebau stores, the beads on the the charms were ones that I had on hand, probably from Michaels.

Wow I love those Celtic knot looking ones! I made some for my last swap partner, (tea themed) but I couldn't get good pictures so I didn't post them.

I'm glad someone brought this thread back up.

I just joined this forum the other day after a year of lurking. I've been wanting a chance to thank Artlady for the inspiration to make my own stitch markers.

I've wanted some since seeing them on eBay but I am too cheap to pay those prices. So with Artlady's tutorial and everyone's pictures I decided to try it out myself.

As with most things I try out I can become obsessed so I've made quite a few(or more) of them. They are by no means expert but I like them.

I try to do them on the cheap so I don't use sterling silver findings, just regular metal ones and not so expensive beads. Buut I like how they turned out.

I will add a link to my Photobucket album where I have them pictured. There are about 20 or so pictures which is why I didn't just add the pictures here. Hopefully you will be able to see them. Let me know if you can't.

Thank you Artlady.

Marjorie
