Need a simple scarf pattern for a chunky (size 5) yarn with 10.5 needles.

Should I just do K1 P1? I'd like something a little more interesting, but the only stitches I'm really comfortable with are knit and purl. Don't know how to psso or stuff like that. (I know that's basic, but....)

Just want something moderately interesting.

I checked knittingpatterncentral.com but everything that had "bulky" in the name was either SUPER bulky or made from novelty yarns (ugh, I can't use those!).

I know I could just do a garter stitch, but that's too boring.

I'm fine with a basket weave, but how many to cast on and so forth?

By the way, the yarn is Debbie Bliss Cashmerino.

How about the Scrunchable Scarf. It's a very flexible pattern in that you only have to cast on a multiple of 3 so you can adjust it to your yarn. K2, p1 all the way across on both sides. It really makes a nice comfy scarf.

The pattern itself is at www.knittingpatterncentral.com , but I have to say that the picture with the pattern is not as nice as many I've seen here.

To figure out how many to cast on for a basketweave scarf, multiply the number of stitches per inch this yarn knits up by the number of inches you want the width of the scarf to be. Then adjust to the nearest multiple of 4.

Seed stitch (cast on an odd number of stitches, k1 p1 across each row) and moss stitch (there are some variations on this - I often do what is essentially a mini-basketweave of 2x2 blocks) also make nice scarves.

Hi,

I just finished this scarf: pieKnits: Ropes and Ladders Cabled Scarf Pattern for my grandmother. I used 7mm needles (US size 10.5 is 6mm) and I think it came out nice. I didn't do 21 pattern repeats, though, because that would go to her knees. I only did 14.

The cabling is easy, and I learned ssk with this pattern. One tip, though! Use a blockable fiber because the sides tend to curl up.

I'm making a seed-stitch scarf for my boyf with homespun on size 10 needles...it's turning out really nice and the pattern's pretty mindless for the most part.

....and started it ohhhh about one hour ago. I had left over yarn from my granddaughter's fweater. I thought this would just be the finishing touch to that. I already have 12" done on it. It goes soooo quickly. I am using Simply Soft Caron Quick in Orchid with a Soft Pink for the ruffle. Wow, I am amazed how quickly this works up and how nice it looks AND it is soooo easy!!! If the scarf you are doing is for a female, I recommend this one to you.
