question about gauge

i want to knit this pattern for a lacy shrug. it has a gauge of 16 sts and 22 rows for 4" in the travelling leaf pattern on sz. 9 needles. i found some silk i want to use, but i'm not sure which weight would come closest in gauge. these are my options:
20-24 sts = 4" on sz. 5-6
30-34 sts = 4" on sz. 4-6
45-50 sts = 4" (no size given - 2/28 NM Lace weight)
50 sts = 4" (no size given - 3/50 NM Lace weight)

which one would work best? if none of them, could i double strand one and make it work? i'm making the shrug for my grandmother who is tiny, so if a smaller gauge would make it come out smaller, that's fine (as long as it's not small enough to fit a smurf

).

i'm determined to one day in the future be able to figure out all this stuff for myself, but until then i am SOOOO glad i have KH!
