Sweater for Dachshund

Hello!

Does anyone have a sweater pattern (that's not too difficult, still a beginner here) for a small dachshund?

I was thinking of looking on Ravelry but do not have an account there yet. Can I get knitting patterns for free there?

I know there is one that is NOT free; I bought a dachshund sweater pattern on Ravelry called wurstw�rmer by pamela wynne. It was not a very difficult pattern (I've never knit a sweater before, mostly scarves and other flat things) although I did use the videos here for a couple of techniques.

I had the free trial of knitware Basic. it has a pattern generator for dog sweaters and sweater for people as well. I used it to create a special sweater for a long legged Chihuahua Who is about 14 years old. he was twelve at the time I made it for him. I sympathize with you. I have a Corgi. They look like walking hot dogs. It took me a while to understand this, but my Corgi is a medium size dog just like any other medium size breed. His legs are just shorter. I couldn't find any patterns for him online and had to make up my own. The thing ended up being something like 19 inches long. Good luck trying to get him to wear that thing. My dog hid under the bed when he saw me coming with the completed sweater. I had to coax him out with a dog treat. He never keeps them on.

The next one is a crochet pattern. I know you don't crochet, but this is a very simple concept. You measure your dog's neck, cast on that many stitches, and knit it as one flat piece. It's seamed around the neck when finishing. You can knit an optional tab on the bottom of the sweater and button it on. This was the easiest pattern yet for those long school bus bodies.

Thank you so much! And yes, dachshunds are so oddly shaped that I'm not sure how to find something that will fit properly! I also know that they (my parents have two dachshunds) are so low to the ground that whatever I make will probably be dragged along the ground so I didn't want to find anything I would get really attached to.

The pattern link I posted above (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/wurstwarmer) is specifically for dachshunds, although I understand that you are trying to find something free. I just wanted to point out that there already is a pattern that will help you make one that fits dachshunds properly.

I've knit it myself and my MIL can't say enough good things about it.
