well, the instruction makes 8 rows (2 repeats). That's how much I did in my swatches.
I tried with thin cotton, thick cotton, angora wool, acrylic yarn...

the pattern did not show this way. I will write the designer an email and ask her, if the instructions are right. Maybe something is wrong there? Or maybe it takes a certain ratio of yarn strength to needle size (I did try some, too.)

But the weekend will come and I will be able to try some versions until it comes out. This is the first pattern that does not want to play with me. It bugs me!

It's not you hyperactive. These directions will not make the stitch pictured. I've tried it flat, in the round, wyb, wyf, purling, knitting. Nothing works. I was interested in this pattern too, and the instructions for the lateral braid were so clear, but this is not working. I hope you get an answer from the designer.

When I searched for "linen ridge stitch" I can't find anything that looks like this either, but I didn't do an extensive search. I looked at Knitting Fool, and through all my Harmony Guides and one other and found nothing. Very interesting.

I am not too dumb, I am no knitting-fool!
I was really doubting myself.
I did try it flat, wth purling,
flat with knitting those rows
in the round with purling and knitting
(strange, because the pattern says "row" but the thingies are done in the round... so all was possible.
slipping the stitches purlwise (as it says) or knitwise...
wyif wyib and so on.
My husband was looking half amused, half worried.

I did find the designer's web blog, though. So I will try to get clarification from her.
She did write that this was her first pattern making. Maybe something was just from memory and wrong?

I will try tonight if it works when you purl through the back loop...

My google and pattern listing search was no better than yours, either.

But an email might clarify it all. I will let you know!

hi!
I did get an email (and blog reply) from the designer.

She says that we got it just right:

knit in the round, even number of stitches.
row 1: purl
row 2: wyib slip 1 purlwise, purl 1 (repeat)
row 3: purl
row 4: purl 1, wyib slip 1 purlwise (repeat)

and she says that one has to do at least 11 rows to make it pop out.

Guess what: I tried it again. And I still did not get it. Well, my purl bumps are higher and lower that way. But I do not get the ridges to pop out that way. They are bumps that are off-set from each other. But no ridges.

I guess, the pattern might work better or worse with some yarns. And maybe the needle-ratio has to be loose or tight?

If anyone has any idea, I would be very interested.

Now that we know that it does work by these instructions I still ask myself: how

Oh, well, not everything can be just that simple!

You might try larger needles. Slip st patterns can be quite dense and need bigger ones to work right.

Can you post another link? I copied and pasted the first one, but it doesn't work for me. Thanks.

Hi!
since links can only be posted with a minimum of 5 postings or so, some new members chose to "disturb" the link, then they can post.
This one only has a blank too much. Here you go:

That is interesting because the pattern calls for exactly 11 rounds of the linen ridge stitch, repeat the 4 rounds 2X then the first 3. I am still dubious.

How are your experiments going hyperactive? Anything showing up when you do 11 rounds?
