knifft knitter baby caps for donation

Hi all,

Ok, so I'm not a skilled knitter like you all talented people, but I have knitted several baby hats with the kniftty knitter and would like to donate them. I know that many hospital have specific requests and I am not sure if mine would meet those. They are great hats, very sweet and just sitting here. Anyone know who I could give them too?

Contact your local hospitals and ask them about baby hats.

You can also try your local churches. Most of them have programs for their areas to help out those in need.

thank you for responding, I have checked with my local hospitals and they have certain requirements and with using the kniftty knitter, I can't be sure if it meets their requirements. So, that's why I am on this site hoping someone will say here is this organization, they will take them. I also and doing hats for kids on the larger rings and want to donate them. If there are women's shelters, homeless shelters, organizations to send them overseas I will gladly send them off.

There’s a thread on the charity knitting forum titled “Knit for Hope” that might interest you. If you want to try finding something local to you or a specific type of charity, go to the Lion Brand website. You can put in your zip code and find something that way, or you can put in the name of a charity if you know it, or the type of charity you want to find. Good Luck! One of the groups I knit for is the Children at the Pine Ridge Reservation, Pine Ridge, South Dakota. There are all kinds of children in need of children's clothing, any size, any color. There are lots of different schools and organizations on the Reservation which, I believe, has the largest population of Lakota Sioux Native Americans.

One group that comes to mind is a battered women's shelter called Cangleska. You can mail items to the following addresses:

Try donating them as chemo hats. They come in all sizes and some of them like to wear a nice soft hat or cap. I have a friend that uses a loom to knit hers on. The Cancer Society gladly takes them and requests in addition to the smaller hats some larger size would be welcomed too. Also you could try the military organizations that put together baskets of baby items for mom's to be. I know on Anysoldier.com there is a link for items that a deployed spouse can pick from to send to his wife for the baby. It makes them feel like a part of the birth experience. So maybe you or a friend could do a blanket or booties to go along with you little hats.

I collect baby hats - preemie and newborn for the NICU where my son was born. My collection program is called ,"Make 1 for Morgan". I collect them and donate them on the his DOB and DOD (the same day). If you'd like to send them to me send me a PM and I will make sure your hats go to good use.

I work in an NICU and we can use caps of all sizes from 10 inches on up. They do have to be washable,soft, no bumpy trimming or decorations, and please wash without fabric softener as the smell can be irritating to little noses. For the smallest sizes it is best to use finer yarns and smaller needles. We get knitted and crocheted caps, and for all we know, some of them may have been made on a knitting loom.
You might take them to the hospital to have them checked out.
All the other charity ideas are great, too. We can do so much good with our knitting.

..Hi, just saw your post...hope I am not too late.....we would love your hats!!!! I make/donate hats (etc) to our local hospital....Matter of Fact, I have to "knit up" somewhere around 20 by November 18...but since I am "lamed up"with tendonitis, and carpal tunnel, I have only 2 done....
