I originally thought about Dollyce (Artlady) when I was going to post this, but you all might find it interesting or useful as well. I'm seriously thinking about getting one of these for travel! Many hotels offer wifi..some free, some not, but just having it in the airport, or on a car trip would be awesome for those of us who don't have a smart phone or what to use a laptop or iTouch.

Here's the article I read about it -

Here's the website -

Thanks, Jan! I'm in the truck (in the mountains) waiting for DH to hike up to the cattle gate to unlock it so we can 4-wheel up our last.haul to the summit! I've reading that article (about the MiFi gadget) during our 6-hr drive today, in between internet 'dead zones' that is! I think you have two links... and I'm anxious to read the other one, too! WOW! That MiFi thing is SUPER!!!! I was telling John about the article in general, one good point....that our society is fast approaching the era where every structure will provide WiFi as considered as normal and necessary as lights and plumbing and telephone!

Well, he's back! The next haul will be too rough& bumpy to read or write. Hang on to my Shin Tzu is all I can so!

THANKS AGAIN!!!

Did you notice that your posts are "duplicating"? If you look above on this thread and the latest posts back to me on your DroidX thread...your answers posted twice.

Thanks Pam! I didn't notice it! I think I know why. When I hit the POST REPLY key....nothing seemed to happen...so I hit it again and then it posted. I'll try to delete the duplicates from my DROID, but if I can't, maybe JaninCa (KH MOD) will be so kind. Otherwise, I will when I get back to the city!

It would be nice if there was free Wifi everywhere, but I think as long as they can they will charge for it if they can get away with it. Like airports. I think I may buy that thing.

I love that little techie gadget, too!

At the moment, I've got an Unlimited Data Package with Verizon, for about $39 per month...and according to the article, I'm prolly one of the last. The article stated that 5G is the limit these days. However, I would love to be able to use my laptop for internet-based projects when I'm out-and-about sometimes! When I get back to town I'm gonna research it some more! Like the guy (gal?) said in the article, he keeps looking for 'the catch'! That's me all over.

Catch is in the Math.
I see two "catches" from the two Virgin deals, $40 for unlimited data (when all other carriers define "unlimited" to mean 5 Gigabytes in a month) and the article says Virgin doesn't limit it at all. Compared with the second deal of $10 for just 100 megabytes for a ten day period. Either gives us a price per 100 megabytes. The two catches come in when you compare cost per 100 megabytes between the two plans.

Catch 1) Do they expect most monthly users (about a 30 day period) to only use 300 megabytes (or less) but still pay $40 dollars or four times the cost for only 3 times as many days?

or

Catch 2) If an average users transmit 5 gigabytes a data a month for $40, then selling it in 50 smaller pieces for $10 each would get Virgin $460 dollars more than selling it at $40 dollars to one user. 100 Megabytes is equal to 0.1 Gigabytes or you could say 5 Gigabytes is equal to 5,000 Megabytes.

But how much more is it costing from other carries?

And the great unknown is how many Megabytes do you typically use browsing your favorite web sites or even just "essential" sites?
