There are two ways (that I know of!) to unintentionally add to a row. One is not getting the loop over the needle all the way, and thereby creating two separate loops. The other is crossing the yarn in front of the needle and then continuing to knit (this is an actual method of adding to a row.) Just go slow and take your'll get the hang of it

At the top of the How to Forum there's a sticky - Mysterious Extra stitches. That's about the common ways you add stitches and what to do about them.

Make sure that you go through the loop right next to the needle and not through the part Next to or under it. When I get to going too fast I catch myself doing that. It puts another loop on the needle but it is wound differently.
Loving every minute of it so far!
