I don't understand this pattern.
Back: Cast on 35 (51) sts. with the straight needles. Knit in the garter stitch, increasing 1 stitch at both ends of the row, every 6th (4th) row, 3 (14) times. There are now 41 (79) stitches on the needle. Continue knitting in the garter stitch for 5 ¾" (14 ¼").

i am casting on 51 sts so every 4 th row I add a stitch on both ends? 14 time to make 79 stitches ?

right, every 4th row one more stitch on either end (like kfb, M1 or the like for increase, usually about 1 or 2 stitches in from the side of your work). That is 28 more stitches, so 51 + 28 is 79.
