Hmm..is my math wrong or the pattern's math wrong?
So, new hat.

CO 100 stitches

First round keeps the stitch count at 100
Second round there are four k2tog --- 96 stitches left
Third round keeps same stitch count
Fourth round has four k2tog --- 92 stitches

This is where it gets funky. There are two rounds that get repeated 16 times --- so 32 rounds total. The first of these two is straight up knit, keeping the stitch count the same as the row above it. The second round has four k2tog, meaning every other round, I decrease by four stitches.

4 decrease stitches * 16 rounds = entire hat decreased by 64 stitches

92 (the number of stitches when these rounds started) - 64 stitches = 28 stitches left.

But the pattern says 24 stitches remain after completing those two rounds 16 times. Problem is, the rest of the pattern is worked in multiple of 6 stitches, and 28 is not a multiple of 6.

I am unable to find an errata on this pattern, so..err...what do I do? Just k2tog a few extra times in the last round? Someone else has made this hat, so either I'm wrong about something not seeing what, or the pattern is off a bit and needs a slight adjustment. Either way, help!!

Perhaps it says 'repeat these 2 rounds again and 16 more times'? Which pattern is it and how is that part worded? Or it my be a typon on their part. Sounds like you need to do the dec round once more and then go onto the next part so you have the 24 sts.

I am willing to bet that (regardless of what they SAID) what they MEANT was

work these two rows and then repeat them 16 times (total of 17 repeats)

that would give you the 24 stitches.

I agree with Mario. (That agrees with Sue too, I think.)
