What did I do wrong?

I am now knitting a baby blanket that consist of a patten of knitting 10 knitting stitches to make a square and 10 stitches of purling to make a purl square, repeating over and over etc. The pattern is the Simply Perfect Baby Set in Lion Brand Yarn. (www.lionbrand.com/patterns/90277AD.html?noImages). My question is that when I finish knitting the knitted square and go to the purl square, my yarn is loose between the two squares. When I go from the purl square to a knitted square, there is no problem. The tension is the same for all. What might I be doing wrong that would cause the loose stitching going from a knit square to the purl square. Thank you. Margie

It's because it takes a little more yarn to go from a knit to a purl than the other. You can wrap the first purl st backwards and knit it tbl on the next row. Or scootch the bottom of the knit st forward a little so the yarn has less distance to travel to the front.

Usually you would wrap a purl with the yarn in front, over the top of the needle and down coming between the needles back to the front. Backwards would be the opposite direction - back between the needles, up over the top and down to the front. Then on the next row, you knit it through the back leg instead of the front leg (closest to the tip) like you normally do.
