Need sock help!
I'm new to knitting and absolutely love it! Right now I'm doing socks and I'm confused on flap and gusset heel. Ok let's see if I can word this right.

I have 24 sts on my needle, the patter says to follow the 24-stitch flap and heel gusset.
Heel turn Row 1- Sl1, k13, k2tog, k1, turn (leave remaining sts on needle)
Heel turn Row 2- sl1, p5, p2tog, p1, turn

Then it says go work as for 40-stitch flap and gusset heel until 14 sts remaining.

I'm so confused, I have stitches on both needles, and don't know what to do. The instructions for the 40-stitch has too many stitches so I don't know where to start.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Welcome to Knitting Help!

How many total stitches do you have? Do you have a link? This sounds different than what I've done with a normal heel flap sock.

Total sts are 48. 24 are on a st holder and 24 are on a dpn.

The pattern came out of The Big Book of Socks by Kathleen Taylor.

Okay, you'll be working on only the 24 stitches for the heel flap. The instructions you listed appear to be for the heel turn which comes after the flap. The heel flaps I've done were like this -

Row 1. slip 1, k1 across (the 24 stitches) turn and work on back of flap now -
Row 2. slip 1, purl across

Repeat rows 1 and 2 till it's as long as you want.

Look in your book for the heel flap instructions and see if that is what they want you to do. It's pretty generic so it may be in a general area rather than with each pattern. Here's the tutorial I learned from. It's on DPN, but if you're using circs it'll still work. The center number, the blue one, is done on 48 stitches as well so it would be the one to use for example.
