Pattern for kid to knit

I taught my son how to knit, and now he wants to make a project. I don't think he has enough patience to knit an entire scarf. I think he needs something that is relatively quick. I was going to suggest that he knit a dishcloth/facecloth, but I don't know if he will be very excited about that.

Does anyone have any ideas/links to some simple pattern for something he can make?

I am a new knitter too, so I have just been making dishcloths so far. I was going to suggest he make a hat, but I haven't even tried that yet, so I'm not sure how to guide him on that. I haven't even used circular needles yet.

Find a cloth with a pattern in it, and he might like that, or one that's knit on the diagonal like Grandma's Favorite. There's a lot that use knit and purl to created designs. Check out these sites -

On the first two sites you might find a hat pattern that's knit flat, then sewn together.
