I love that you carried the cables to the back of the hat. I've seen some of these hats with knit and purl for the back.

I think I'll add one more cable and place less purls between the cables on the next one I make.
This is a simple pattern and quick to knit with a size 8, 16" circular needle. I used the magic loop method on the top when decreasing. I'll also increase the length a little more by make the ribbing at the bottom about twice the length that it calls for.
