Having trouble knitting the earflaps for a newborn hat. Pattern says to pick up 12 STs at hat edge. The hat edge is done in garter and I don't know of a good method to pick up with that kind of hat edge. Thanks!!

It doesn't matter whether the edge is garter st or not, they're picked up the same way. With the RS facing you, insert the R needle into the first st, bring the yarn through and repeat.
