Looking for an aternative

Have a vintage pattern for some great long gloves but it calls for Fleishers Win Sport.

Knitting is on No12 ( UK ) No2 ( US)

Tension is 10 rows to the inch.

Any ideas please?

10 rows or 10 stitches per inch? Or is it over 2"? That's a pretty tight gauge even on US2s, most socks are pretty tight when knit at 8 sts/inch.

Stitches per inch is a better way to figure gauge than rows. I couldn't find the yarn to check it. What gauge do you need for the pattern? Do you have a link?

the pattern says ' gauge: 10 rounds = 1 inch'

not having knitted in the round before i assume it is the same as rows?

Uses : Bear Brand or Fleisher's Machine Washable Win-sport, 4ozs

The CO of 52 sts, how many inches is it supposed to be? Rounds do equal rows, but how many per inch can differ if it's stockinette or garter stitch. It's probably fingering/sock weight yarn.

I'm not asking about the tension now... if it gives finished measurements how many inches is the 52 cast on sts for - 8", 7, 9? I presume it's for the wrist. It really would help if you have a link to the picture at least.

Regardless.... I think if you use sock or fingering yarn you should be able to knit them to the right size. Just start with it, work to the wrist and see how it goes.

A friend just gave me a skein of Bear Brand "sock and sport" yarn that she picked up from Goodwill. It's a 1 oz. skein, but there's no yardage listed on the label, nor any hint of gauge. It looks like regular sock or fingering weight.

Don't know if that helps or not, but it's all I have.
