How do I work increased stitches into cable pattern?
I am working on a sweater coat that has a cable pattern over 8 stitches and 8 rows.

R1: (C5B, K3), to last 5st C5B
R2: p1 (k3,p5), to last 4 sts, k3, p1
R3: k1 (p3,k5), to last 4 sts, p3, k1
R4: p1 (k3,p5), to last 4 sts, k3, p1
R5: k1, (k3,C5B), to last 4 sts, k4
R6: (p5,k3), to last 5 sts, p5
R7: (k5,p3), to last 5 sts, k5
R8: (p5,k3), to last 5 sts, p5

The increases are every 6th row and placed in the middle of the work between the front and back panels so there are 2 stithes increased between each front panel and the back panel for a total of 4 increases each increase row (then every 6th row). I don't know how to work the increases into the cable pattern. Any ideas?

I purchased the pattern on Ravelry so I don't want to post-it. But if anyone is interested in a beautiful long sweater coat it is called Adeline by Lucy Sweetland (a black pepper design) and is only $7.50.

Are the incs actually IN the cabled sts, or in the sts between the cabled columns? If they're in the inbetween panels, in those k3 or p3 sts, then they won't affect the cables at all.

Thanks for the quick response. The increases are in the inbetween panels but eventually I will have 12 extra stitches next to each other and I'm not sure how to work these into the cable pattern.

Thanks!

You might not need to work the extra sts into the cables, I think.

If you can post the ravelry link we can see what it looks like, and it's okay to post just a few rows so we can understand where the incs go and how it's worded.

Thanks Sue - so here is the part of the pattern I am struggling with

There are 41 sts, marker, 119 sts, marker, 41 sts

Increasing 1 stitch before and after markers (work increased stitches into the pattern) every 6th row 6 times

cable pattern is as follows

Row 1: (C5B, k3) to last 5 sts, C5B
Row 2: p1, (k3, p5) to last 4 sts, k3, p1
Row 3: k1, (p3, k5) to last 4 sts, p3, k1
Row 4: as row 2
Row 5: k1, (k3, C5B) to last 4 sts, k4
Row 6: (p5, k3) to last 5 sts, p5
Row 7: (k5, p3) to last 5 sts, k5
row 8: as row 6

CB5: slip 4 sts on CN and hold behind, k1, slip 3 of 4 sts on CN back to left needle. bring CN with 1 stitch forward. then p3 from left needle and k1 from CN

the link to ravelry page

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/adeline

Thanks for all the help!

Okay, so where are you, on the lower body? Is the cable pattern on all sections, just over 119 sts or what? What sections do the markers mark off, or are they where the side seams would be?

If you inc 1 st before and after markers every 6th row 6 times that's going to add only 6 sts on either side of the marker. So for Row 1 - (C5B, k3) to last 5 sts, C5B - you would do the k3 sts at the beg and end of each repeat. Since you need 8 sts for a full cable and k3 repeat, you can just keep the additional sts in stockinette st I think. You do that with a lot of patterns.

Thanks Sue

The cable pattern is on all sections (the markers are where the side seams would be) so the cable is over all 221 stitches

I'm not understanding the stitch count though. The cable repeat is 8 plus 5 and it doesn't go evenly into 41 or 119.
