crocheting fair isle? is it easier than knitting?

I'm wanting to start a project and fair isle crochet than knit which is what I've been doing in the past. I get the general concept, I just think the changing of the colours sounds more difficult than it does in knitting.

I just wanted some opinions before I take on a project like this!

I'm not familiar with knitting...but in crocheting is a process of creating fabric from yarn or thread using a crochet hook. I don't know with the knitting.
