what is k4, *?
I have never seen anyone knit in my life and have decided to try and learn through the internet. I printed a pattern but I have no clue what I am doing. I think I have managed to knit the first rows correctly but now I have come to a change in the pattern and don't know what to do. It says k4, * k3, p3 * .... could someone please help me understand that row? I really appreciate it!

When you see an * in a pattern, you repeat everything that's after it, either until the next one, or to the end of the row. So you would work that row as K4, k3, p3, k3, p3, k3, p3, etc...
