Crochet Hat Problem

Hi. I'm making my first hat and it's just turning out like a pancake. What am I doing wrong? Do all hats do this until the end? I am about halfway through the pattern and the only part that ever curls in is the last 2-3 rows. I was about 3/4 of the way through and thought I might have to skip the crochet after the slip stitch on each row, so I tore out back to one of my markers and re-did it while skipping the stitch after the slip but it doesn't seem to make any difference.....Help!

The same exact thing is happening to me and I'm a new crocheter. I'm so frustrated. My Fiance wants me to make him a beanie and I did it to about row 16 just like the pattern said and it looks like a frisby! Ughhh

ChiefsChick: According to Diana, the instructions are unclear for the original hat pattern (http://www.headhuggers.org/patterns/cpatt01.htm).

Did you try using the links and hook sizes Diana recommended earlier in this thread?

You might find this video helpful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoCRUObS0Tc She joins her rounds in the video, your pattern says not to. Maybe it would be easier to keep track of stitch counts if you do join your rounds.
