High-Tech? or Low-Tech?

My husband and I recently found ourselves in need of replacing our ancient washing machine. Because my husband is a do-it-yourself'er we asked the salesguy for something on the low-tech end, so that my also ancient fix it guy could keep up with it. (which is why our first washer got so ancient to begin with! he just kept repairing it!)
but I digress...
We ended up purchasing a new high efficiency washer. Not one with all the bells and whistles, just a basic one. It seems they are all sensor driven now. But it is nice to know that I'm saving a little money on water, gas, and electricity with it.
This machine is a GIGANTIC learning curve for me, having been so out of touch with modern trends. It makes the weirdest noises, for one! And, I don't know which products would be best to use with it. Something environmentally friendly would be best, and it seems fitting/appropriate.
Does anyone else here have a HE washer? Do you like yours? Can you recommend go-with products, please? THANK YOU!

I love my HE washer! I think they're great ... I've had no problems with performance, and I like that they save water and energy as well.

Most detergent manufacturers offer a variety of HE products now, for example Tide. They also offer a cleaning product for your HE machine ... although since you just got yours you really won't need it at this point. I've never used it myself, but my mother has had her machine for several years now and has used this product occasionally.

If you're looking for a natural/environmentally friendly detergent, there are several available ... one that I know of and have had good experiences with is by Greenworks.

Yes it is very confusing to have a washing machine that "talks" to you!

Sorry I don't have HE...

I have a basic brand new Sears washing machine for the barn for $100. It has lots of dials and an infra red display. I also have a high-efficient front door LG machine for the house. It only uses 2 amp to run and is great for small loads.

Love them both for the job they do!!
