Which stitch to continue with?

I K1, P1, on one row, then P1, K1 on the next. When decreasing does one continue with the stitch to follow or the stitch the decrease leads to?

Hi. Is this supposed to look like ribbing (columns of knits and purls) or seed st (nubby texture)? Because regardless of whether you inc or decrease sts, if it's ribbing, knit the next st if it looks like a knit, and purl the next st if it looks like a purl. For seed st it's the opposite - purl if it looks like a knit, and knit if it looks like a purl.
