knit stitches on lace scarf

Having trouble getting right hand needle into back of stitch on left hand needle so as to knit the stitch. So far I am pulling stitch from left needle and then positioning right hand needle into the back of it in order to knit the stitch. I have knitted 3 inches so far. This is my first time with mohair/silk yarn. Any suggestions?

With lace knitting you need larger needles than you'd normally use for the yarn, and mohair normally needs large needles anyway. Or you could be pulling the sts too tight, there shouldn't be any difficulty just doing a plain knit.
