Joining new balls of yard

When knitting with two strands of yarn how do you join two new balls of yarn I am using 100% Acrylic yarn and I am trying to knit a baby blanket.

I would just start knitting with the new yarn. It will leave a little gap, but you can close it up later when you weave in those ends.

This is just a guess, really, as I've not tried working with two strands yet, but maybe it can be joined in similarly to a single strand of yarn? That is, by holding the two ends together and pretending they were one strand (and using the same protocol you'd use for adding in single new ball of yarn). Not sure if this is correct, but if you're already using two balls to do a two stranded knit, then I'm not sure if there would be another way of doing it. It's what I would try if it were me, but perhaps one of the more experienced knitters knows better.
