fingerless gloves question
ug. I am so bad with directions sometimes. Hoping someone can help.
____
Directions:
pick up and knit 45 stitches around the cuff. Knit 10 rows then start gusset.
round 1: k2, M1, K1, m1, k42
round 2 & 3: knit
round 4: k2, m1, K3, m1, k42
round 5 & 6: knit
continue in this manner adding two stitches to the bold segment every third row until there are a total of 60 stitches.
_____
ok, my question is..I am adding two stitches (any way I want to) to round 1 and round 4? right where it is bolded? doesn't that change the amount of knit stitches at the end then by 2? or does it just assume I know that? so instead of k42 wouldn't it be k44?

You're adding the sts between the incs; first you k1 between them, then k3, then k5 and so on. The sts on the other side of the increases won't change so you continue to k2, m1, k X, m1, and k42. The 'k X' is the number that changes. When your total number of sts is 60, then you go on to the next instruction.

How many inc sts did you do on R 1? Or how did you increase? A m1 isn't the same as kfb here, you lift the yarn between sts and knit it tbl, or do a backward loop.

i took it back and started over, but I still keep ending up with the wrong stitches at the end. I need to clarify, for row one and three do I keep adding 2 onto the current total? so, after the first set and I start on my second repeat would row one be
k2,m1,k5 ?, m1, k42
row 2 and 3: k
row 4: k2,m1,k7 ? ,m1, k42

to help you a little further:
what you are making here is the thumb gusset. that is a "shim" that you work into your glove to make room for the thumb. Look at your hand: it does get wider where the thumb starts. That is why you make this piece.
If you want to organise yourself I recommend using stitch markers (or loops of yarn hanging on your needle) to seperate the sections.
round 1: k2, MARKER HERE M1, K1, m1, MARKER HERE k42
So when you get to the round 4, you slip the marker, M 1 knit the section of 3 stitches between them (the 1st increase, the k1 , the 2nd increase all from round 1) and M1 again, then slip the marker and work the rest.
this way you can see easily: all that changes is the amount of stitches between the markers. the rest stays the same.
check the increase videos up top for M1
