As you work the increases, you kind of expand the pattern on each side.
For example, if your pattern was
12345 12345 (increases here) 12345 12345
you would increase on one row and on the next row you'd work the stitches as follows
12345 123451 512345 12345
then
12345 1234512 4512345 12345 etc
make sense?
