alternate to gator yarn?
I'm knitting my first alligator scarf...with morehouse's gator yarn. Mind you, i bought this kit almost two years ago and finally decided i could attempt it. Anyway, it's getting lots of "oohs and ahhs" from the peanut gallery (both kids, my nieces and nephews)...has anyone used an alternate yarn instead of gator yarn? how did it work? i guess my concern is that maybe the ridges won't be as well defined.....

thanks!

I made several with "Patons Classic Wool" and they turned out great. It is a good all purpose 100% merino wool yarn available at Michaels and Joanns. Check out Ravelry, I'll bet there are lots of gators of many yarns, there.

I never realized it was done with "gator yarn," so I googled it. It's described as a "Densely spun sport weight," so I'm guessing if you look for that quality in a substitute yarn, it would work as well. Cute scarves, btw.
