How do you secure the yarn to start picking up stitches?
First of all, thanks to everyone who has answered my questions and helped me with my project. I am nearing the finish line for my zip front cardi (without flared sleeves).

I'm ready to pick up stitches and add the collar, and my question is, where and how do I secure the working yarn?

I have looked at the video on this site several times, but it doesn't give directions for how to start picking up stitches from scratch.

Thank you.

I just start picking up stitches and then weave in the end later.

This is what I do as well. I wrap the working yarn around the pinky on my right hand (I knit Continental) and then I start picking up stitches. that way the yarn isn't flopping around and getting really loose while I'm trying to pick up the stitches, but its also not secure to anything so that I can still have some wiggle room. Then I just weave it in later.
