Help with a pattern

I am attempting to start a Christmas stocking and am having difficulty with it. The instructions say work 6 mds in garter st (k1 md, p 1 md) until cuff measures 2".
Work 4 more mds in garter st. How do I do this? Thanks for the help.

I think instead of 'md' the pattern should say 'rnd' for round.

To work garter stitch in the round, you have to work one round in knit and one round in purl, so it makes sense.
