Joining in the round

Hi All,

I have a pattern for a blanket that is worked entirely in the round, increasing at 4 points outward to form a giant square.

The directions say: "Using kpns, CO 4 stitches. Divide onto 4 needles. Join in the round, (k1,yo,k1) into all sts. Place end of round marker." You proceed to m1 on the knit rounds until you get to 116 sts and change to a circular.

I can't figure out how to do this. I only have 4 dp needles and a circular. I tried dividing onto 3 needles (1 st., 2 sts., 1 st.) and knitting with the 4th, but that didn't seem to work.

I wondered if anyone could help me out with this?

You should be able put the stitches on 3 and knit with the 4th. It will be very awkward for the first few rounds, though.

You might want to work a few rows flat and then join in the round. You'll have a little gap to stitch up in the center, but it might well be worth it. Knitting with 4 stitches on dpns is tough.

Agreed, you can do it with just 4 needles. But, be sure to mark your 1st stitch with a marker or you'll be very lost till things take shape.

I suggest CO1 to 1st needle, CO1 to 2nd needle, CO2 to 3rd needle.
Place a stitch marker. A small looop of different colored yarn is probably best as it will be very pliable during these first few tight rows.
Then use your 4th needle to join and start following the pattern.

I'm going to say to put the sts on only 2 needles for a few rounds, join and knit with a 3rd one. Then after you've increased for several rounds, add the 4th needle and rearrange them.
