I'm in the middle of a sweater for which I am holding two yarns at once to get the proper weight and also because I didn't just want to knit in plain black.
Here's what I've been doing...
I have two largish bowls from my kitchen and place them on the floor side by side, beside my recliner where I usually knit. I place a ball in each bowl and because the bowl is slippery, the yarn comes off really nicely.
Now I still get twists but not for quite a long time and this has been totally worth it to me. I never worry about the yarn getting twisted in the knitting... it only adds to the new fabric surprise that I get in the end.
