Confusing Inc Instructions - help please

Hi, can anyone help me?

II am making a baby's cardigan and am working on the sleeves... the instructions state the following;

Beg with k row, work in st st and inc one st at each end of the 3rd and every foll 4th row until there are 47 sts. (I am starting with 25 stitches).
I included one stitch at each end of the 3rd row, and then row 7, 11, 15, 19 etc.... but I now have 47 stitches, but the sleeve is too long. Can someone explain?? I obviously need to take into account the 3rd row, but can't quite understand.

Sounds like you did the increases correctly.

Are you sure it is too long?:
Is it longer than the pattern says it should be?
Is it longer than desired for your intended recipient?
Does it just look too long to you?

Was this sleeve worked flat or in the round?
Is it separate from the body and needs to be attached, or was it worked while attached to the body piece?
Sounds like it was flat and separate, and worked from cuff to shoulder, which is how your model should be measured as well, from wrist to top of shoulder, not from wrist to underarm.

That's Increase, not Include, but as long as you made new sts and have the correct number.... You did the incs on the correct row too, but your row gauge may not be the same as the patterns, so the same number of rows for you will be longer. On a baby sweater, that's not a bad thing, you can always turn up the sleeves and they can wear it longer, especially if you made the body a little longer too.
