I want to make the Bernat Baby Coordinates Chunky Cables Blanket for a pregnant co-worker and have a question about the pattern.
Cast On 146 sts
K 7 rows, inc 20 sts evenly across last row (166 sts)
K, dec 20 sts evenly across row (146 sts)
K 6 rows
Do I really need to inc and dec the 20 sts or can I just Cast On 166 sts and knit normally? I would feel much more comfortable not inc and dec. I feel like they would look noticeable and kind of weird. Is there a reason for the inc and dec 20 sts?
Thanks for any help : )
I was afraid to start knitting with 166 sts without finding out the reasoning for starting and ending with 146 sts.
The reason for increasing at the beg of the blanket and decreasing at the edge is that the cables will pull in widthwise. If you just cast on the 166 sts, the edges are likely to flare out and be wider than the body of the blanket.
