The 'kw' means 'knit wise' - insert the R needle into the stitch as if you were going to knit it, but just move it over to the R needle.

i slip one (sl 1) to the right needle and then where does the knit wise come in?

The way you insert the R needle into the stitch is the same as the way you insert it if you were going to knit it. Knitwise is not a separate instruction, it goes with slipping the stitch. Slipping purlwise would be to insert the needle as if you were going to purl it.

Thank you...for some reason, I read more into this than necessary..if it's sl as to k..seems it could have just said that,eliminating the -...like maybe i was supposed to s1 twice.

It's just how some patterns are written. Bernat's patterns drive me nuts as they use a period after each term instead of a comma, so sl 1, k1, psso looks like sl 1. k1. psso. I think of a period as the end of a sentence or text, commas separate the steps.
