O M G - Lace Knitting

I started a new sweater today. It's the "lace crop top" from the spring/summer Debbie Bliss. It calls for a 2-ply kid mohair/silk (aka THREAD) and size 5 needles. I've been knitting for about 3 hours now - - and I'm getting ready to start row 4.

So basically, I'll be done with this top in about 5 years.

I suggest using a lifeline if you haven't! Mohair alone is hard to frog and it's lace on top that which is hard!

What do you mean by "lifeline" Jan?

A lifeline is when you use a smooth fine yarn to thread through the stitches on the needle/cable to hold your place if you need to frog back. Make note what row in the pattern you placed it so if you do have to frog you won't have to guess what row you're on. Move it up every 10 rows or so or use another piece of yarn. Mohair will still be a pain to frog, but at least you won't have to guess where you are.

If you're using a very fine yarn you may want to use unwaxed dental floss for the lifeline.

Wow thats good info Jan. I never heard of that. I'll keep in mind if ever I need to use something like that.

Okay, I timed myself. It takes me 18 minutes to do ONE ROW.

I went out and bought some metal needles. Maybe that will help a bit. I'm a tight knitter and it was getting impossible to slide the work off.

Lace knitting....AAARRRRRGGGGGHHH!!! I am sooo frustrated with my pattern. I have been on it for 8 months and it's very slow going....

I hope you have better luck and more patients....

What are you making, offgrid? This top that I'm making SHOULD be easy peasy. It's basically just a front and back that you sew together - and it's not too long - cropped at the waist. The pattern is simple enough. But I find myself losing my place a LOT. Grr... It's a 4-row patt repeat. And right now, I'm just focusing on doing four rows per night.

I can tell it's going to take me forever to put together. And it bums me out because it's a summer top and I doubt I'm going to make it in time!
