It should say in your pattern, up by the stitch notes. Anything with a Cx is usually a cable st, over the X sts. The R could be a typo though...

It would help if you'd give us the pattern name and a link to it if possible when you ask questions.

Could it be Cable 2 right, K something, something? Wonder if there's a C2L(left) somewhere nearby in the pattern? Maybe it's an old pattern or one from another country where they don't use back or front.

If not then it's curious-er than I can handle. Hope, as Sue said there's a stitch glossary with the pattern. I'd really like to know the answer too.

Ahh yes, didn't think of cable L and R, used to seeing them as F/B.

That's probably it, so to do C2RK you would put 1 st on a needle and hold in back of your work, knit the next st on the L needle, then knit the stitch on the holder. A C2LK would be where you put the st on the cable needle and hold in front of your work. Unless the actual definition is put 2 sts on the holder and knit 2 from the L needlel, making it a 4 st cable.

C2RK would be like C2RP except you knit the sts instead of purl them. Hold 1 to the back, knit 1, k the held st.

Ahhh Maggie, I had a feeling it would be Irish. What fun. Yesterday I pretended to be Irish - today I pretended to know an answer - nothing wrong with that - at Christmas I pretend to be good!

So glad you found your answer. I learned something too.
