Does anybody know how to fix the reverse herringbone stitch

i am working on the free Crystal palace knit kimono pattern which calls for the reverse herringbone stitch, whatever that is. It looks great...then i guess i start getting tired and when i am supposed to YO right before the previous row's YO, it isn't there! It is very difficult to frog it and I end up having to start over because i can't figure out how to fix my mistake. the pattern goes like this:
cast on
knit first row
k1, k2, YO, K2tog, k2, YO, k2tog, k2, YO, k2tog for every row.
my problem happens right before the YO, when i notice that something went wrong on the row before .....ugh...help please??!!

If the row is ending as ... k2tog k2 yo, k2tog, that leaves you with 5 sts. The first 5 sts of the next row are k1, k2, (that's 3, the yo isn't a st yet) then k2tog so put into symbols --
Row 1 ends in / k k O / (then reading the next row from the end)
Row 2 begins / O k k k

See how the first 3 k sts are done in the st that resulted from the k2tog and the YO and the first of the k2 from the previous row. Then the yo adds a st and k2tog takes care of the 4th and 5th sts. The Yos will sorta be offset not stacked on top of each other.
