need help with crystal palace knit kimono

this is the free pattern. when i cast on 106, knit the first row, then start the pattern, it gives 3 stitches at the first part of the row and at the end of the row it gives 1 stitch with a YO right before it...i want the back to be even with the same amount of stitches on both sides. any hints here? i cant do it!!

There's probably a reason to do it as written - my guess would be that you're increasing on the one front edge so it slants across. Typical for a baby kimono style. Do you have a direct link to the pattern? If we can look at it we can help you faster.

You are misreading the pattern. The pattern reads...
CO 106. Pattern is a multiple of 4sts with 2 selv sts (1 on each end).
All rows: K1, *K2, yo k2tog; rep from * to last st, K1


You should be knitting 1 st, then working the repeat, then knitting 1 st. Maybe this will help
All rows: K1, (K2, yo, k2tog) repeat to last st, K1.

For your CO of 106 sts, you should be working the repeat 26 times between the 2 end sts.

Yep, Rochesterknitter is right - you do the YO k2tog all the way across the row after the first 3 sts, then at the end you'll have a single stitch after the last k2tog, and knit it. A yo doesn't include a stitch, you just wrap the yarn around the needle.
